Our Mission
The mission of Formosan Presbyterian Church’s English Ministry is to know Christ as Savior and serve Him as Lord to our local church body and to the immediate community.
Our Core Values
Core Value One: Bible Centered Preaching / Teaching
The centerpiece of all we do at Formosan is Biblically sound preaching and teaching. This will extend to include all guest teachers and preachers. (Ephesians 4:11, Romans 6:16-18, 2 John 1:8-10)
Core Value Two: Praise and Worship
Our worship and other gatherings will include songs and hymns. These sessions will be youth led, age-group relevant and theologically sound. (Ephesians 5:15-20, Psalm 40:2-4, Acts 16:25-26)
Core Value Three: Prayer
Prayer will be a part of all our corporate gatherings and will be taught as an integral part of the Christian’s life. (1 Thessalonians 5:17, Matthew 6:4-6, Luke 11:2-4)
Our Biblical Principles
1 Corinthians 15 – Always keep our focus on the Gospel. Paul makes the clear point to the church in Corinth that while he taught them many things about the Kingdom of God, he wanted to make sure that they remembered the most important thing. We will endeavor to do the same.
Ephesians 4 – The means of our unity and our living a life worthy of our calling. Paul teaches the church in Ephesus the reason for unity, namely the Holy Spirit, who being God, indwells each believer. As such, we are able and should live in unity with other believers. The peace and fellowship that flows from such unity will enable us to live a life worthy of Christ.
Philippians 2 – Model Christ’s servant example. Paul teaches the church at Philippi about Christ’s reason for coming to Earth. At the heart of Christ’s ministry is servitude. As such, we are to follow Christ’s example and think of others as better than ourselves. But, Paul adds that we are to do all things without complaining. We strive to model this behavior.
Matthew 7:15-19 – Always be on our guard for false prophets. Through consistent teaching and preaching of the truth, we will prepare our congregation to spot false teaching. Truthful teaching and preaching will be required of all guest teachers and preachers, as well as lay leaders.
1 Thessalonians 4 – Our eschatological hope. Jesus teaches us that we will have trouble in this life, but that He has overcome the world. Paul makes sure that we fully understand that Christ will return and that we will be co-heirs with Him in perfected resurrected bodies on a perfected new Earth. If we keep a long-term view in mind, it will make enduring this world possible.
